For centuries, the medical profession has been aided in its diagnosis of certain type of heart disorders by the sounds and vibrations associated with the beating of the heart and the pumping of blood. The technology of listening to the sounds produced by the organs and vessels of the body is called auscultation, and it is still in common use today. This paper contains a brief description of the Phono Cardiogram Machine, which is used to listen to the heart sounds of a human being and the output waveform of which is analyzed to predict the nature of any problems. Electrocardiography and ultrasound are relatively efficient but at the same time very expensive. The primary purpose of the designed machine is to provide a non expensive alternative to such devices with considerable efficiency. The PCG (Phono Cardiogram) Machine designed was tested on a number of patients and was seen to show a high efficiency. The machine was also interfaced to a computer to see the heart sound waveform in an Open-Source Sound Wave Editor Software, 'Audacity'. |
